Start small.
Last night I watched My Sister's Keeper. While I'm not a big Jodie Picoult fan, I actually did enjoy the book a lot when I read it years ago. Part of the reason I enjoyed it so much was because it was my first Picoult, so the style was fresh. There wasn't too much variation in the books I subsequently read. Nonetheless My Sister's Keeper was interesting. It explored failures and triumphs within family relationships, and also explored the ethical and legal issues associated with so-called "designer babies".
The movie was a little heavy on the family relationships, and a little light on the legal and ethical discussions which was actually the primary source of interest in the book. I didn't buy Cameron Diaz as an over-protective, control-freak mother. I think casting her in that role was the main downfall of the movie.
