Awhile back I wrote about being more open with my parents. A number of people have kept me accountable to that post and have asked me (some have asked quite a few times) in what ways have I been more open with my parents since then. I'm afraid the answer I have had to keep giving is in no way have I been more open with them.
But last night I met up with them at the Moonlight Cinema and we saw Frost/Nixon (for free essentially, so that was a bonus). The movie was excellent, but really the highlight of the night for me was the time I could spend with them before the movie started. I was honest with them about how I was feeling about 2009, the uncertainty of the future, the ideas I have, the fears I have about these ideas. And they were wonderfully supportive. I'm not at all surprised, but I was humbled as they laid their unconditional love on me. I don't know who taught them how to love like that, but I hope that part of their legacy in my life is that I can love people like that.
