I've been doing Discovery Days all week at uni. New Year 12 students come in by the coachloads from both local and regional high schools to get a taste of uni life. We run fun lectures to give them an idea of what each department is like, and they select their own timetable for the day.
I love high schoolers. I love uni. I love teaching psychology. So it's really easy for me to be very enthusiastic about encouraging young people to come to uni and study psychology and take my classes. It's a really natural thing for me to do.
But I've given the same session 6 times already this week. I'm on auto-pilot now. I'm a bit tired. I'm running out of real work clothes that fit me. I wore thongs today, teamed with a semi-professional outfit. It's too hot to dress up properly, plus it's uncomfortable milling about at uni all day in my proper work gear.
Did I mention I'm actually getting paid to do this? Which seems crazy because I would have easily done it for free had they asked. But I don't get paid in actual cash. I get paid in Coles-Myer vouchers. I wonder if it's an adjunct to Rudd's economic stimulus plan. Employer pays retailer who issues vouchers. Whole new payroll system right there. Of course the uni is the first to catch on to this sensible innovation.

Well done with 4 out of 5 professional work wear days! I have a feeling that the vouchers are actually a tax write off for uni - as you know, the charity I work for gives vouchers as bonus', so I think the uni has probably caught on to the tax-free theory here! Either way, you're winning!
