The Story

At the risk of sounding like an Answers in Genesis extremist (which I'm definitely not), I'm finding myself referring to the Genesis story a lot in conversations lately when trying to make sense of human behaviour. In particular, our broken relationship with God and the differential curses that men and women bear in this life as consequences of this. These things are in my consciousness a lot, and I keep talking to people about them. I don't know much, but I like thinking about it.

I got talking last night with a bunch of young women about the temptation or tendency that many (most? all?) women have to seek the affirmation and love of a man rather than resting in the provision of these things from God*. It's interesting to note that as a result of our broken relationship with God, Genesis tells us women will turn to others to supplement God. Men will turn to the work of their hands. To themselves, basically. hmmm.

*I'm not trying to suggest that it's wrong to want a husband, or to love a man. I'm talking about when seeking this overshadows seeking God.
