freedom, freedom

This moment marks the end of the ultimate summer day. I woke at 10:50am, far later than I expected but I wasn't worried, I had nothing to do today. Instantly I wrote Katie a message that said "Beach?". She was preparing to go anyway with a couple of others. Good girl that she is. So I met them 20 minutes later and we headed out for several hours of surf and sand and sun. Katie surfed, Lauren attempted to surf, Shelley read her book, and I swam and read in alternation.

We had an unhealthy late lunch back at my place. Katie nearly got busted by Highway Patrol for not wearing a seatbelt. Silly Katie.

Shell and Lauren headed home, and Katie stayed to watch Garden State on DVD. When I suggested it, she was very enthusiastic as she had The Constant Gardener in mind. We thought we finally found a movie we could agree on, until the opening credits revealed that the movie I had in mind was different to the one she had in mind. She didn't much like Garden State, but we did both agree that we liked The Constant Gardener. So I guess we found a movie we can agree on after all, even if we didn't watch it today.

Post-movie we decided we needed a nap or a walk. We opted for the latter. We met up with Langdon and walked from his place to the rockpool and had a delicious evening swim. After drying off by sitting on the rock ledge in the last few moments of sunlight before it disappeared behind the mountain, we walked back to Langdon's where he whipped up a bbq dinner. We sat out on the balcony and watched it get dark and drank Baileys for dessert.

Then we watched Love Actually. Because it's Christmas. Watching Love Actually and other London movies makes me want to book a 1-way Sydney to Heathrow ticket and get a job at UCL, London. But I won't. Yet.

I love days where you can just make it up as you go along, and today was one of those, and it was tops.

I wrote this post without my glasses on and now my eyes are sore. It normally takes at least twice this long for my eyes to strain when I'm not using my glasses. Another year, another eyesight failure.
