manic monday

Well...not exactly. A sleep in, a coffee and paper reading in bed, and a walk on the beach filled up my morning and early afternoon. But this afternoon was a little more eventful. It is becoming a tradition for a particular group of my girlfriends to hang out on public holiday Mondays. Usually we do some kind of epic cook up, but today for something different we had planned a picnic in the rhododendron gardens as a Girl's "Night" In fundraiser (Cancer Council fundraiser for women's cancers research). Nice idea...never quite eventuated though.

Two of us arrived on time, and the weather was gorgeous. However, thankfully we had chosen a table under some shelter because in the blink of an eye a terrible storm came over and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. By this stage there's 3 of us huddling under a blanket, wondering where everyone else is. A gust of wind came and blew over our champagne glasses which all smashed to their death on the concrete floor of the shelter area.

Just as another friend (who had gotten terribly lost in the tiny suburb of Mt Pleasant) arrived we decided the weather was too ridiculous to persevere with, so we planned to pack up and head to Ali's instead, and send texts to everyone telling them all to meet us there. So we got our things together in a hurry and made a dash to the cars.

By the time we get to Ali's, the sun has broken through and the weather has warmed up again. Oh well, we can settle in with a glass of champagne and strawberries, it'll still be a nice afternoon, we thought.

Then I realised I'd left all the champagne at the gardens...

A few tortured moments of to-ing and fro-ing about whether or not it was worth driving back to the gardens to pick up my cooler bag filled with champagne. I decided it was.

So an hour and a half after we were originally supposed to meet, we finally settled down to afternoon tea. It was fun, and funny, and pleasant, and was a very good afternoon with some special women in my life.

I did heaps of other things this weekend that were also good and special, but that's probably the best story.
